Cognosco Branding

This was a live brief that me & Phil had done the initial ideas for on a very short time scale, in the end we didn't get the job but we really liked what we had done so decided to extend the brief into the creation of a full brand, we wanted it to stand out in sea of club flyers all with photoshop swirls and girls in bikinis. It needed to be exclusive, but simple and beautiful. Also it needed to be an idea that could work across different events through changes to colour and detail. We liked the idea of a deck of cards and collectables, building up your deck and also the feelings of excitement and risk associated with gambling which is where we came up with the central emblem. We thought that this went really well with an isometric grid and a tight colour palette. To finish the brief with a real exclusive and personal touch we designed our own rubber stamp and used it to make hand stamps business cards to be given out for discounted entry to the event.

Finished Business Card

We've gone for something really simple with the business card, a patterned from with a space left for the rubber stamp and then a very minimal back just using the colour and typography from the poster to tie it all together.

Finished Poster

We've reworked the front of the flyer into a shorter space and then condensed the information from the back to fit underneath for the flyer. It's not hugely important if the text at the bottom isn't legible from a distance, the important thing is that people are seeing the pattern and logo and the name of the night and this should entice people to come closer to the poster and read the bottom.

We've changed one of the colours from light blue to black as we think it gives the whole thing a lot more definition that two shades of the same colour. We've also reworked and tightened up the layout of the reverse which I'm a lot happier with, overall we're really pleased with it and we think it'll look great printed. We've definately created the visual style that we set out to.

Finshed Letterhead

This is the final idea we're going for, for the letterhead. We've made the front really really simple and left space for us to stamp each one, the simple layout will really bring focus to the rubber stamp. On the back we've decided to be quite bold and do a full pattern print of the isometric grid, We feel it works really nicely alongside the simplicity of the front.

Business Card Layouts.

Developing business card and letter head layouts. We really want the business side of the night that acts almost behind closed doors to visually go hand in hand with all the flyers and posters we make. We think that this will help to create a really strong brand which is what we feel is important for the night to succeed.

Rubber Stamp Arrived

It looks great, I think this is going to work really well for our final resolutions.

T-shirts

We've mocked up this photograph to show the potential usage of the logo. It could really cheaply and easily be printed onto T-shirts like this for the bar staff to wear behind the bar and really hammer home the visuals.

Reverse Layout

Theres quite a lot of information to go onto the reverse of the flyer so we've decided to keep the layout really simple and just look at the use of a hierarchy to display the information effectively. I've made a line out of the triangles I made the pattern from and I think this along with the colours and typography make the front and back work really well together. Some of the sizing and alignment still needs to be worked on though.

Flyer with seasonal colour changes

We've put together this sheet just to show how we've been experimenting with changing the colours in the design, if this design was to be kept and the idea used again I really think that the colours could be changed seasonally to represent the natural colours associated with each season and it would create a feel great set that people could recognise and understand.

Flyer Developed

We've been working together to work Phils emblem design into my background pattern, we're trying to keep a limited colour palette to keep the design really bold and bright. We've gone for two shades of blue at the minute because this in the winter night and it seemed the most seasonal. In our initial meeting with the client there was talk or some old artwork that had been done which involved plants and the client liked the organic feeling that that had created. I really think that with this design we've also managed to create an organic feeling, it almost looks like a flower blooming amongst the leaves.

I still think some of the typography needs developing some more but overall I think this design is really working.

Phils logo

Phil's developed this logo to go into the center of my background pattern, I think it looks really great.

Polished Isometric Pattern

I've added in a small white line between the shapes for more definition and I think that with a range of good colours, this pattern could work really well in a lot of different contexts.

Pattern Development

Me and Phil have decided to base the concept of the visuals and branding of the Cognosco club night around the idea of pack of cards. We want the fliers and other printed materials to all work as a set and become collectibles, and the visuals need to be designed so they can evolve over time but keep their identity. We won't be doing a standard playing card design but we will be developing our own design based on the composition and layout found on other playing cards. We've split the design up into the background pattern design and the central emblem that is found in the center of cards. We will then work in the information and layout together.

I started of looking at a circular pattern thats found on most playing cards but it wasn't creating the look I wanted. I remembered that in our meeting with the client he'd shown be a couple of illustrations he liked which were drawn from an isometric viewpoint. So I started to look at an isometric grid and experiment with filling in some shapes. Started to make a pattern which I could repeat over 4 quarters of the area to make a really dynamic look.
