Pattern Development

Me and Phil have decided to base the concept of the visuals and branding of the Cognosco club night around the idea of pack of cards. We want the fliers and other printed materials to all work as a set and become collectibles, and the visuals need to be designed so they can evolve over time but keep their identity. We won't be doing a standard playing card design but we will be developing our own design based on the composition and layout found on other playing cards. We've split the design up into the background pattern design and the central emblem that is found in the center of cards. We will then work in the information and layout together.

I started of looking at a circular pattern thats found on most playing cards but it wasn't creating the look I wanted. I remembered that in our meeting with the client he'd shown be a couple of illustrations he liked which were drawn from an isometric viewpoint. So I started to look at an isometric grid and experiment with filling in some shapes. Started to make a pattern which I could repeat over 4 quarters of the area to make a really dynamic look.
